swing dancing?

Do any of you freaks go out to partner dance events, like swing or tango? I'm interested in exploring that more and was hoping to find events that have a bit of a freak attendance (swing stuff is sometimes heavily attended by middle aged creepy guys, though not always, and of course it's kinda annoying to be a Tribe type and have to endure an evening of talking to straight people about their marketing job while trying to dance...)

If there isn't already a contingent that goes to something like this, is anyone interested in setting up an outing in April to one of the dances? I'm out in the Bay Area at the moment but will be back in April and want to get really into swing/lindy/jitterbug type stuff.

I was into the swing dancing scene in the Triangle last year, and as much as I enjoyed the activity, the people were pretty dull.

If you want to give it a shot though, there is an organization called the Carolina Dance Club, and they have Sunday dances at the Elks lodge in North Raleigh. www.musicanddance.com/CDC/page.php

If you somehow succeed in finding a couples dancing group with fun people in the area, please let me know! :)

Well, there's a few Raleigh-area tribes in which we could try to get something started, as in, get a contingent of Tribies to go regularly and have a dinner outing beforehand, or something.

I've been meaning to get to the Elks one for a while, it conflicts with another event for me, but I'd be into going sometime.

Also, there are tango classes at Open Eye cafe on Wednesdays, I think, I imagine that might attract a younger or more interesting crowd.

Haven't tried the Open Eye cafe yet....I took a tango class last year and didn't care for it much, but that probably had more to do with the instructor than the class.

I also remembered this: www.triangleswingdance.org/Dire...y.asp The Triangle Swing Dance Society (the other swing group) has a dance every other weekend at the Armory in Durham. It's a bit bigger and a more mixed crowd; I haven't been since they closed it last year.

I'm going to the Elk's Lodge dance thingamajig on April 13th. I am going to the "early" Latin dancing... but wouldn't mind staying to participate in the 6:30-ish swing dancing!!!! I know nothing about it, but they offer a "free" lesson before the real dancing starts :)

Last time I went to early latin dancing, there were mostly people who are much older than me... but it was still a LOT of fun and everyone was really nice! To me that's always what's important :)

Well, I'm back in town next week but not for very long. Im thinking of going to the tango class at Open Eye Cafe on wed (I think it's at 8 but am not 100% sure). Anyone up for that?

Yeah, after being into swing I do find tango boring, but all my friends in California seem to be into it so I feel like I should learn.
